Both models have 16GB of eMMC storage and a variety of I/O ports, including Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, USB, and microSD. However they do not ship with WiFi onboard. But with 2 USB 2.0 ports and 1 USB 3.0 ports, you have the option of adding WiFi functionality over USB.
We sat down with several different ALFA Network WiFi USB adapters to see which models would be plug and play, and here is what we found:
AWUS036ACH- this model may be your best option. With a separate USB cable, it plugs into the reComputer J10 USB cable and is automatically recognized with easy connectivity to either a 2.4 or 5 Ghz network.
AWUS036AC- because it uses the same chipset as the AWUS036ACH above, we were not surprised that it worked. But due to its dongle form factory, we needed to use a USB extension cable to get it to easily fit the USB 3 port on the reComputer.
AWUS036EAC- with the same chipset as the two above, this also worked. Because it is a pure dongle style with integrated antenna, it can fit directly onto the back of the reComputer, but performance may not be optimal at that orientation. For maximum performance a USB 3.0 extension cable or USB 3.0 dock should be considered.
We did additional testing with ALFA AWUS036ACM, AWUS036AX, and WiFi 6E AWUS036AXML but these models were not natively supported. We will publish another article related to driver installation of those models if it is possible.
In summary, if you need a plug and play WiFi USB option for the Seeed Studio reComputer J1010, the ALFA AWUS036ACH, AWUS036AC, and AWUS036EAC option are all natively supported.
Coil whine is a high-frequency noise produced by the coils and inductors found in electronic components, such as power supplies, graphics cards, and other high-performance devices. These components play a crucial role in regulating and converting electrical currents within the device. When these coils vibrate at frequencies audible to humans, they create the distinct whining sound that many users associate with coil whine.
Coil whine typically occurs when the electronic components are subjected to varying electrical loads. The vibrations arise due to the rapid changes in electrical current passing through the coils, causing the coils' windings to physically vibrate. The frequency of these vibrations falls within the audible range, resulting in the distinctive whining noise.
Several factors contribute to coil whine, including the quality of the components, the design of the circuitry, and the electrical load placed on the device. Even high-quality electronics can experience coil whine under specific conditions.
Now, let's focus on the ALFA AWUS036ACHM wireless USB adapter, a high-end networking device known for its exceptional performance. It's not uncommon for such devices to exhibit coil whine, and there are a few reasons why this may happen.
1. High Performance and Power Requirements
High-end electronics often demand more power to deliver superior performance. The ALFA AWUS036ACHM, being a powerful wireless USB adapter, may experience increased electrical loads during data-intensive operations. This heightened demand on the electronic components, including coils and inductors, can contribute to coil whine.
2. Quality of Components
While high-end devices generally use high-quality components, variations in manufacturing processes and the sheer complexity of modern electronics can result in some level of coil whine. The quality of coils, capacitors, and other components can influence how susceptible a device is to coil whine.
3. Circuit Design
The design of the circuitry in electronic devices plays a crucial role in mitigating or exacerbating coil whine. Complex circuit layouts and tightly packed components can create conditions that promote coil vibrations and, consequently, the associated noise.
In most cases, coil whine is a harmless byproduct of the electronic components doing their job. While the noise can be bothersome, it rarely indicates a defect or impending failure. However, if the noise becomes excessively loud or changes in pitch over time, it may be worth consulting the device's manufacturer for further assistance.
In conclusion, coil whine is a natural occurrence in many high-end electronic devices, including the ALFA AWUS036ACHM wireless USB adapter. Understanding the factors contributing to coil whine can help users make informed decisions when selecting and using such devices. Ultimately, as technology advances, manufacturers continue to refine their designs to minimize these audible side effects, offering users a quieter and more seamless experience with their high-performance electronics.
Storage capacity is typically advertised using decimal-based calculations, where 1 gigabyte (GB) is defined as 1,000 megabytes (MB). However, operating systems use binary-based calculations, where 1 gigabyte is 1,024 megabytes. This means that when you buy a 32 GB SD card, the manufacturer is using the decimal system, and the actual usable space you see on your computer is calculated using the binary system.
So, when you convert 32 gigabytes (in the decimal system) to the binary-based system used by your computer, the actual available space is slightly less. Additionally, some space on the SD card may be reserved for the file system and other system-related functions, further reducing the usable capacity.
The calculation is as follows:
This difference in measurement units and the reserved space explain why your 32 GB SD card appears as 29.7 GB when viewed on your computer.

Devices operating in the ISM bands are subject to certain power and emission limits to prevent interference with licensed services. However, users typically do not need an individual license to operate devices in the 433 MHz ISM band for certain low-power and short-range applications, such as remote controls, garage door openers, and various wireless sensor applications.

]]>T stands for Transmit: This refers to the number of antennas or radio chains dedicated to sending data from the device to the network or other devices.
R stands for Receive: This refers to the number of antennas or radio chains dedicated to receiving data from the network or other devices.
Now, let's look at a few examples:
1T1R: This configuration has one transmit antenna and one receive antenna. It's a simple setup commonly found in older or budget wireless devices, or long range repeaters that are designed to have all power allowed by FCC on one transmit radio instead of divided among multiple ones. With only one transmit and one receive path, the device can communicate with the network but may have limited speed vs a device with more antennas.
2T2R: This configuration includes two transmit antennas and two receive antennas. It's a common setup in many consumer-grade wireless routers and devices. The additional antennas help improve performance, especially in terms of signal strength and throughput.
3T3R or 4T4R: These configurations have three or four transmit antennas and three or four receive antennas, respectively. These setups are often found in higher-end routers and wireless access points. They offer even better performance, increased capacity, and improved coverage compared to 2T2R configurations.
MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output): These terms are often associated with these antenna configurations. MIMO technology uses multiple antennas for both transmission and reception to enhance wireless performance by increasing data throughput, improving signal quality, and reducing interference.
Another way to look at it is like lanes on a highway. If you are the only user of a WiFi router or computer, 1T1R may be sufficient, because you will only be streaming one video, or downloading one file at a time. If you are the only driver on a road, one lane is fine. But when there is more traffic, more lanes help. If multiple users are using the network, this increases traffic, and more antenna streams may be desired.
]]>Another reason for discontinuation is changing market demand and trends. Consumer preferences and needs can shift rapidly, and electronic products must adapt to stay relevant. Manufacturers may discontinue a product that was once popular if it no longer aligns with current market demands. For instance, a smartphone model that was successful a few years ago may be discontinued if consumers now prefer devices with different features or form factors. This shift in demand doesn't diminish the quality of the discontinued product; it's a strategic response to the ever-changing market landscape.
Manufacturers may also discontinue products due to logistical or supply chain considerations. If certain components or materials become scarce or expensive to source, it can make production unsustainable or economically unviable. In such cases, even well-performing products may be discontinued simply because it's no longer feasible to manufacture them at a reasonable cost.
It's important to recognize that discontinuation is a multifaceted decision influenced by technological progress, market dynamics, and logistical factors, and it doesn't necessarily indicate any inherent flaws in the product itself.

]]>As our inventory grows to include many low cost parts, at a time when shipping carriers are excessively increasing shipping costs for light weight items, we have determined our free shipping model is negatively impacting many.
We all know shipping is never really free. It gets included in item prices. An item that used to be $9.97 with actual shipping expense of $5 is listed as $14.97 with free shipping. Where this impacts the consumer is when they need 10 of a certain part. Instead of paying $99.70 plus actual shipping in the prior example, they are charged $149.70.
We have explored quantity discount options, but they are difficult to properly integrate into various channels including Google Ads. So buyers would see higher prices on ads than would actually appear during checkout, decreasing conversions and sending customers on a hunt for the products they need.
What are we changing?
In September we will be initating a free shipping minimum. Orders above this amount will have a free shipping option, while orders below will see actual shipping charges at checkout. We will be reducing per unit prices of many items to no longer include an adjustment for shipping costs. So if you need just one, the total price will stay the same as now. But if you need a quantitiy, you will save money.
Stay tuned and contact us with any questions or concerns.
Some manufacturers will release new WiFi models with different chipsets just by adding a v2 (version 2) to the model number. For example, if you are used to buying part ABC123, you may see it available as ABC123 v2. This can be a confusing way to operate, because it may appear you are buying the same part as in the past, when in fact it really is a different product.
With ALFA Network products, the full model number will change when a new version is released, but the model number may appear similar. For example, an older ALFA product AWUS052NH was phased out, and a newer version called AWUS036ACH was released. This version had a different chip, and interacted with operating systems and applications differently.
If you are sourcing a specific product and have concerns about long term availability, or what to do in the event of a phaseout, please contact our experienced team for a consulation. We can help determine the best way forward.

What we plan to do at Rokland for our customers
We will continue to offer all shipping options, however as of July 24th, packages will be redirected to a competing service at FedEx. For example, a UPS 2 Day Air shipping selection will be sent via FedEx 2 Day Air.
We will discontinue transit time guarantee refunds because the carriers are suspending them. This means an overnight package would not qualify for a shipping refund if not delivered on time. We advise customers to not use expedited methods unless absolutely necessary, and understand they may not arrive in time.
It is important to note that FedEx and US Postal Service will still prioritize expedited shipping options over standard shipping options. Therefore selecting an expedited method will have the benefit of arriving faster than standard or ground because those methods will be delayed as well. However they may not be delivered on time and won't be subject to transit time guarantees.
We will make an efffort to notify expedited customers of this policy before shipping. Notification means a phone attempt (and voicemail if applicable) as well as an email.
If a package is delayed, we will not be able to recall the package while in transit due to the additional strain it will place on the carriers. Customers must wait for delivery and we will provide a return label should an item no longer be needed.
We hope a strike does not happen, but have the above plan in place in case it does.
