The original Meshtastic Starter Kit from RAKwireless uses an NRF52840 chip and can be bought here.
You can remove the RAK4631 from your original Meshtastic Starter kit or mini starter kit, and attach the RAK3312 core and module set in it's place.
The ESP32-S3 version should not be viewed as an upgrade OR downgrade, it is different hardware. This article compares them.
The most common error is mixing up numbers and buying the RAK3112 stamp module by itself. The RAK3312 begins with two 3s, and the RAK3112 begins with a 3 and a 1. They look similar in name. But the RAK3112 is only the stamp module that can be used for embedding. It cannot be connected to a RAK base or core board.
