New USPS rate hikes affecting our model
For more than 10 years we've adopted a "free sitewide shipping" model for shipments inside the USA. Despite average rate hikes of 8% per year, we've updated our systems for max efficiency. On July 12th the US Postal Service eliminated ounce-based pricing, which means shipping a 2 ounce package is the same as 2 lb package. This has more than doubled shipping cost for lightweight items.
Effective September 1st, we will charge a flat $4.95 on all US orders under $20 USD.
Orders over $20 USD will continue to have a free shipping option at checkout.
While this may appear to increase costs for consumers, in many cases it may decrease your cost. One challenge of a free shipping model is that the shipping cost is built into the price of each item sold. So a $6 sensor is sold for $12 as an example. If you buy 2, you are essentially paying double-shipping even though we are combining to one shipment. While we do offer QTY discounts, if you are looking for a lower QTY, you will now get a lower price per unit + one flat shipping charge of $4.95 OR free shipping if the order is $20 USD or more.
TLDR: if you order just one item, the total cost plus shipping on many light items will be similar to the previous cost of the item when shipping was built into the price. If you order is over $20, a free shipping option will still be available at checkout.
