With ALFA HaLow-R, you can extend an existing WiFi network and allow HaLow devices to connect. See more here.
What is HaLow?
HaLoW (High-efficiency Wireless LAN) refers to IEEE 802.11ah, a wireless networking protocol published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) designed specifically for the Internet of Things (IoT). Unlike traditional Wi-Fi technologies that focus on high throughput and range suitable for consumer devices, HaLoW is tailored for scenarios requiring lower power consumption and longer range, making it ideal for IoT applications.
Key features of HaLoW include:
- Extended Range: HaLoW can reach ranges of up to 1 kilometer, significantly more than typical Wi-Fi technologies, which usually cover about 100 meters indoors.
- Lower Power Consumption: It is designed to be energy-efficient, which is critical for battery-operated devices.
- Large Network Capacity: HaLoW can connect thousands of devices to a single access point, supporting large-scale deployments in IoT applications.
- Penetration Capabilities: It operates in sub-1 GHz bands, which allows for better penetration through obstacles like walls, making it suitable for applications in rural or complex environments.
These features make HaLoW particularly useful for various IoT applications, such as agricultural monitoring, smart building management, and remote sensor deployments.
