These days, the announcement of a new phone may conjure up eyerolls...with the dominance of Apple, Samsung, Google, LG, and others, who wants another entry into this market? The Solana Saga is more than just another phone- it is a whole new concept designed to reduce Apple and Google's chokehold on the developer market. And it's a project we here at Rokland are very excited about.
The Saga flagship Android mobile phone developed by Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs. It features a 6.67" OLED display, 12 GB RAM, 512 GB storage, and the latest flagship Snapdragon® 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform. Additionally, the phone integrates the Solana Mobile Stack, a framework for Android to enable developers to create rich mobile experiences for wallets and apps on Solana. Pre-orders for the Saga Phone are now open, with delivery expected in early 2023.
Isn't Apple the king, so what exactly is the point?
The goal behind the Saga, according to Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, isn't to sell millions of units like Apple or Samsung. Instead, it is a developer-oriented phone with the goal of reducing the monopoly the Apple App Store and Google Play markets have on developers. They both charge developers a 30 percent fee of app revenue in their marketplaces.
Saga is also a challenge to Google and Apple because it offers web3-focused features that are not available on their devices. In addition, it offers digital asset products and services, such as Solana Pay, which allow users to transact with their cryptocurrency through the device, as opposed to a laptop browser.
The Saga also integrates the Solana Mobile Stack, a framework for Android that enables developers to create rich mobile experiences for wallets and apps on Solana. It features a range of security features, including secure boot, secure kernel, and secure storage. The phone will also come with a 50-megapixel primary camera and 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, as well as Qi wireless charging capabilities. Furthermore, it also includes support for decentralized applications and blockchain technology, making it ideal for users entrenched in the world of crypto wallets, Web3, and NFTs.
With the Solana Saga Phone, developers can create a wide range of projects, such as wallets, digital asset exchanges, decentralized applications, and blockchain-enabled solutions. Additionally, developers can also create games, payment solutions, and other tools that integrate with Web3 and NFTs. Furthermore, developers can also use the Solana Mobile Stack SDK to create custom applications and experiences for users, taking full advantage of the phone's hardware and software features. And, if the platform grows, they can do so without paying such hefty taxes to Google and Apple.
