If your Meshtastic device is reporting an incorrect GPS position or only showing an approximate location, the issue may be related to the Location Precision setting not saving correctly in the Meshtastic app—especially on iOS.
Symptoms
-
GPS appears offset or inaccurate
-
App shows “Precise location enabled,” but device reports a much further approximate radius
-
Changing the setting on the phone does not update the device
Resolution Steps
-
Disable Location in the Mobile App
-
Open the Meshtastic app (iOS or Android).
-
Go to Device Settings → Position.
-
Turn Location OFF.
-
-
Use the Web Interface to Re-Enable Precise Location
-
Plug the device into your PC.
-
Open the Meshtastic Web UI
-
Navigate to Device Settings → Position.
-
Set Location Mode to Precise (GPS).
-
Save the setting.
-
-
Reboot the Device
-
Power-cycle or reset the device to ensure changes apply.
-
Why This Works
Some iOS app versions may display the precision setting incorrectly or fail to save changes. Updating it from the PC/Web UI ensures the device receives the correct configuration.
If GPS Is Still Inaccurate
-
Move outdoors with clear sky view for initial lock (may take several minutes).
-
Ensure the antenna or device orientation is unobstructed.
-
Confirm firmware is up to date.
