Button Layout & Functionality

  • Capacitive Touch Button (Top):
    • Touch:
      • Update the display
      • (at screensaver) Wake the display.
  • Reset Button (Button 1):
    • Single press: Power-on / reboot.
    • Double press: Enter bootloader mode, for firmware update.
  • Program Button (Button 2):
    • Single press:
      • Display next page of information.
      • (at screensaver) Wake the display.
      • (when off) Enter bootloader mode, for firmware update.
    • Double press: Send an "adhoc ping": announce device to network.
    • ** 3x press:** Enable / disable GPS.
    • ** 4x press:** Enable / disable display's backlight.
    • Hold: Shutdown.

 

Flashing / Updating Meshtastic Firmware

Download your preferred version of Meshtastic Firmware (We suggest the Latest Stable): HERE

***Once the Zip folder is downloaded, make sure to extract the contents.***

!!!Caution!!!
Do not proceed unless an antenna is connected to avoid possible damage to the device's radio.
Plug your Lilygo T-Echo into your computer.

Double tap the Reset Button (Button 1)

The T-Echo should appear as a NRF52BOOT drive on your computer. Drag and Drop (Or Copy & Paste) the T-Echo firmware file to the drive. Firmware will be named similar to:
firmware-t-echo-X.X.X.XXxxx.uf2

Initial Configuration / Pairing

Download the Meshtastic App if you are using a Mobile phone or Tablet. Otherwise, if you are using a PC navigate to the Meshtastic Web Client.

Apple iPhone/iPad - App Store - Meshtastic App

Android Phone/Tablet - Google Play Store - Meshtastic App

iPhone / iPad

Open the Meshtastic app on your iPhone or iPad.
1.) Within the Meshtastic app on the Bluetooth tab, Tap the node you would like to connect to.
2.) Next Tap "Connect to new radio?".
3.) A Bluetooth pin will appear on the T-Echo's screen. Type the Pin into the Meshtastic app, then tap "Pair".
4.) Next tap "Set LoRa Region".
5.) Select your preferred region (This will change the frequency of the radio.). Then tap the "Save" button.
6.) Finally, Tap "Save Config for Meshtastic XXXX".
Your T-Echo will reboot saving the configuration and automatically re-connect to your iPhone/iPad.  
Android Phone / Tablet

Open the Meshtastic app on your Android Phone / Tablet.
1.) Within the Meshtastic app, tap the teal bubble with a plus mark in it.
2.) Next tap the node you want to pair with.
3.) The T-Echo will display a pin. Type that pin into the Meshtastic app, then tap "OK".
4.) Tap the Region drop down.
5.) Select the region you plan on operating the T-Echo in.
6.)  Wait for the T-echo to re-boot and auto re-connect to your device.

 

 Enabling GPS (Within Meshtastic App)

 

 By default the T-Echo's GPS module is not enabled.

Android Phone / Tablet
1.) Within the Meshtastic app, tap the 3 dots in the top right corner.
2.) Next tap "Radio configuration".
3.) Next tap "Position".
4.) Tap the drop down arrow on GPS mode.
5.) Tap "ENABLED" from the selection list.
6.) Tap the green Send button in the bottom right corner. 
7.)  Wait for the Android's screen to say "Delivery confirmed". The T-Echo should reboot and automatically re-connect to your Android device.
Apple iPhone / iPad
1.) Within the Meshtastic app, tap the settings cog in the bottom right corner.
2.) Under the DEVICE CONFIGURATION section, select the "Position" tab.
3.) Within the Position config scroll down and find DEVICE GPS. Switch the selection to "Enabled".
4.) Tap the Save button located near the bottom of the screen.
5.) Then tap the Save Config option. The T-Echo should reboot and automatically re-connect to your Apple device.

 

Enabling BME280 (Within Meshtastic App)

 Apple iPhone / iPad
1.) Within the Meshtastic app, tap the settings cog in the bottom right corner.
2.) Under MODULE CONFIGURATION, tap Telemetry (Sensors).
3.) Under SENSOR OPTIONS, toggle "Enabled". You can also toggle "Show on device screen" and "Display Fahrenheit". Then tap the Save button near the bottom of the screen.
4.)  Next tap Save Config for your Meshtastic node.
Android Phone / Tablet
1.) Within the Meshtastic app, tap the 3 dots in the top right corner.
2.) Next tap "Radio configuration".
3.) Under Module configuration, tap "Telemetry".
4.) Enable the Environmental metrics by toggling all of the switches to the right. Then tap the Send button.
5.) Wait for the Delivery confirmed message to appear on the Android's screen. The T-Echo will reboot and re-connect to the device automatically.
