We are renaming the forthcoming WisMesh 1-watt Booster Starter kit to WisMesh High Power Booster Starter kit. Here's why:
We announced in early August that we received new information from the final FCC report on this product. FCC approval came late July, but we only received the final FCC report recently and found limitations to peak power for USA and Meshtastic use. The product was not available for sale yet at the time.
What we found was the RAK13302 module features hardware capable of transmit output power up to 1 watt (30 dBm), enabled by the integrated Skyworks SKY66122 power amplifier. However, the device in its current shipping configuration, is currently FCC-certified (FCC ID: 2AF6B-13302) for a maximum conducted output power of 290 mW (approximately 24.6 dBm) in the United States.
290mw is almost 3x the power of most standard LoRa and Meshtastic radios, so there will be a noticeable improvement in Tx power and transmit distance.
However, under FCC rules, operation of this device in the base shipping configuration in the United States must not exceed the power levels authorized under its FCC grant of certification. Devices will ship with compliant power settings.
Because the device is not outputting at 1 watt with the FCC-certified configuration we are shipping with, we have renamed the product on our web site as RAK High Power Booster Starter Kit, removing the reference of 1-watt from the advertised name due to discovered limitations. Our goal is to proceed by making all data public, and with an abundance of transparency.
