ALFA AWUS036ACM brings dual antenna 802.11ac technology to PCs at an affordable cost. It is a new dual antenna 867 Mbps Wi-Fi USB adapter compatible with Windows XP through Windows 10. It features two RP-SMA antenna ports, and two 5 dBi dual-band antennas. The antennas are detachable and can be upgraded.
This product is very similar to ALFA AWUS036AC but it has the Mediatek MT7612U chipset.
AWUS036ACM is capable of receiving and transmitting on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. With 802.11ac standard routers, AWUS036AC can achieve throughput speeds up to 867 Mbps. This adapter is backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11n networks, but an 802.11ac router is required for the maximum throughput.
This is brand new in retail box and includes the adapter, two 5 dBi dual-band antennas, driver CD.
( +/- 2dBm )
It will work with any computer that has an available USB port and Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11.
Linux: USB WiFi adapters based on the Mediatek mt7612u chipset, including the ALFA AWUS036ACM, have been supported in Linux with an in-kernel driver since Linux kernel v4.19, therefore, there is no need for driver installation. AP mode support on 5 GHz may require the use of a module parameter, "disable_usb_sg", for maximum performance. For additional information and a script to assist with adding this module parameter, click here.
-Supports VIF/VIF capable in Kali (Virtual Interface)
USB 3.0 port required for max speed, though is backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports also at a max speed of 480 mbps.
- Enterprise-class 64/128 WEP encryption, WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2, 802.1X support
- 867 mbps High-Speed Transfer Rate for 802.11ac

Plug and play with Ubuntu. Only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is it's a little too thick which makes it hard to plug in stuff above and below it on my mobo. There's also no link/activity LED and no desktop stand. The included USB 3.0 extension cable is easily worth $5-$10 though so it's a really good deal. Glad I bought two of them.
Perfect 'plug n play' solution for Fedora 35 on a Dell Optiplex 5040 desktop. The included 3 foot cable is well made, and an unexpected bonus. The adapter detects signals that a quite a distance away. Highly recommend! Thanks Rokland for the fast shipping.
This is a perfect choice for Linux running systems. The driver is part of the Linux kernel now, so there is a minimum of effort needed to make it work (on Gentoo Linux, just recompile the kernel after adding Mediatek MT76x2U driver to the kernel in "menuconfig"). It works fine on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi.
Not only is this adapter very easy to use in Linux - as MediaTek contributes their driver into the Mainstream Linux Kernel (Some OpenWRT maintainers actually work on it), it also supports IBSS as well as 802.11s Mesh support. Great chipset.
This adapter works great plugged into a Raspberry Pi 4. It's plug-and-play on Linux since the driver is included in the kernel and it supports pretty decent speeds. I'm currently using it as part of a wireless bridge setup to provide Internet access to a room that would be impractical to run a cable to, and from what I've read it would also work well in access point mode. Reliability seems rock-solid too with no downtime at all since setting it up.
